Pink n’ Lacy
cyanotype on aquarelle paper
50 x 70 cm
2025

In the series Statement Pieces, the traditional cyanotype technique is combined with a modern theme.

The works function as a pointed commentary on recent cultural funding cuts in Finland. By depicting the artist’s own underwear, the series draws a deliberate parallel to the online market for used garments, raising a provocative question: is this the extent to which artists must commodify themselves in order to sustain their practice? Through this gesture, the works critique the precarious economic conditions faced by artists while simultaneously exposing the uncomfortable intersections between value, labor, and visibility.

Furthermore, the series engages with themes of taboo and the shifting boundary between the private and the public. Intimate, everyday objects are repositioned within an artistic and exhibition context, challenging viewers to reconsider notions of propriety, vulnerability, and display.

The series has been exhibited in a solo exhibition titled Statement Pieces at Kulma studio, Fiskars, 2025.
